The 53rd annual New York City Marathon is set to take place this weekend on November 3, 2024. The iconic event will traverse all five boroughs of the city, marking it as the last major marathon of the year. Each year, the New York City Marathon attracts an increasing number of participants and spectators, thanks in large part to the efforts of the New York Road Runners (NYRR). The organization has consistently generated enthusiasm for running by introducing new initiatives aimed at fostering the next generation of long-distance runners.
The NYRR recently hosted a media luncheon to honor Chris Chavis, a longtime ESPN athlete and writer, for his contributions to the sport of long-distance running. Chavis was presented with the George Hirsch Journalism Award during the event.
During the luncheon an exciting announcement made at the luncheon, CBS News anchor and reporter Errol Barnett revealed that he will be making his debut as a runner on Sunday. A member of the New York Association of Black Journalists, we will be rooting him on, the marathon promises to be a celebration of endurance, community, and the spirit of New York.
