NYABJ took part in the 55th annual African American Day Parade. The parade took place in Harlem, New York, and its theme was "Good Leaders = Good Government ... Vote." It honored those who have made contributions in politics and government. The grand marshals were New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado, among others.
NYABJ continues its year of celebrating being the Professional Chapter of the Year by participating in the parade. Terri P, a member of NYABJ, expressed her exuberance for the chapter and being a part of the parade: “It feels incredible. I mean, the organization represents people who look like me, and to be a part of that, especially in New York City, and winning for the very first time, I think in a long time, it's historical, and I like to be a part of history, so it makes me feel really great.”
Harlem residents and those from around the tri-state area came out to watch the marchers, floats, bands, and other participants. The parade ran along Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard between 111th Street and 137th Streets.
Darnell Jefferson, a member of the New York Association of Black Journalists, described his experience: “It’s just the vibrance of being around my people, my Black people, who I love. And I mean, this isn't my first time coming to this parade. I come every year as a spectator, but this year, I was glad I was able to march in it with the chapter.”
