NYABJ Celebrates Black History Month 2024

By NYABJ Pulse Staff

NYABJ celebrated its second annual Black History Month on February 25, 2024, at Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar in Manhattan. The event was hosted by News12’s Shannon Lanier, who brought the crowd to life with trivia and comradery.

The Brunch was NYABJ’s Winter Fundraiser, and the funds for the brunch will be used to pursue the chapter’s goals, including scholarship funds for its high school journalism program First Take

"I'm so excited NYABJ celebrated our 2nd annual Black History Month fundraiser,” said NYABJ President, Bonita Sostre describing her exuberance for the event. “It was a sold-out event that brought together the NYABJ community.”

Attendees of the event were treated to specialty gift bags that included the book “Miles of Style: Eunice W. Johnson and the EBONY Fashion Fair” by author Lisa D. Brathwaite and trivia cards from Spill It Game Cards—a conversation starter card game that is filled with fun, thought-provoking questions and activities for people to engage and get to know one another. The comfort food led to a cozy environment for old and new members of the organization to network with one another. The brunch event is one of many NYABJ does all year round to boost membership morale for journalists while building a community of support. NYABJ is one of the largest chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists.
