An evening of strong winds and heavy rain could not keep the New York Association of Black Journalists away from the movie screening by Paramount Pictures titled “Rob Peace”.  This true story of a young gifted black Yale University student from Newark, New Jersey takes the audience on a journey of love, Black pride, the mind of a young genius and the pressures of taking care of family and the temptations of fast money while keeping the audience on their toes wondrously imaging what could happen next.

This short but powerful biographical film brings back a narrative of ‘Strong Black Men raising-Stronger Black Males’ and was written and directed by British Academy Film Award-winning actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. Chiwetel stars in the film and plays the prideful father in Robert Peace and is based on Robert’s tragic short-lived life.

Julliard School-trained actor and rapper Jay Will also stars in the film and gives a stellar performance of playing the real Rob Peace. Rob is willing to take the biggest chance in his life to save the one man in his life that he loves-when you’re willing to lose it all, this story proves you can lose everything.

Mary J. Blige, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Michael Kelly, Camila Cabello and Mare Winningham all give impressive performances. A quote in the film really gave a holistic summary of the family dynamic in this movie, “you can never be standing in the wrong direction if you’re standing by your people.”
