The 2025 Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala theme was announced on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024. "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" will examine the historical and cultural emergence of the Black Dandy, tracing the figure from 18th-century depictions to modern-day representations. Also announced, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the Met Gala, which will be held on May 5, 2025. LeBron James will serve as honorary chair.

The annual extravaganza is the Super Bowl of fashion. This year’s theme is inspired by Monica L. Miller's book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." “Slaves to Fashion” is a pioneering cultural history of the Black dandy, from his emergence in Enlightenment England to his contemporary incarnations in the cosmopolitan art worlds of London and New York.

What many may not be aware of is that the theme will also be an exhibit within the museum that is open to the public. The gala is the opening-night kickoff, and the exhibition will be on view until October 2025. You can dress up and bring a group of friends to make a full day of it if you aren’t part of the exclusive evening on May 5.
