The Future of Black Owned: She Did That

By: Aleah Shell

The Holiday Bazaar, powered by Shea Moisture and founded by Renae Bluitt was held at Industry City in Brooklyn, kicked off the holiday season with a celebration of Black-owned businesses on Sunday, December 1st. The event featured a diverse selection of products, from food to journals to jewelry and so much more. Eat, Sip & Shop was in full effect!

Keeping the vibes going was a DJ who made sure all in attendance were in the shopping spirit. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, laughter & and a vibrant sense of joy as people filled the lines at the vendors.

Attendees received swag bags upon entry, which included items such as conditioner and shampoo, a bottle of “Peppa Sauce,” and a cookbook titled “While Entertaining”. There were also designated photo areas near the entrance and vendor booths adding to the festivities.

Natural Ash

Featured brands included Rich Roots, B. Stuyvesant Champagne, and Zuri Rose, among others. Natural Ash, a skincare business, with one of the most unique displays included a sink filled with body butters from 3 different scents. Standing in front of the sink gave the effect that you were in your own bathroom getting ready to lather up.

While the event was titled “She Did That”, “He Did That”, a campaign that acknowledges and celebrates achievements of black men entrepreneurs, was also launched and represented by Shea Moisture. Additionally, a Shea Moisture booth offered complimentary bar soap and hair oil designed to help prevent breakage. There was also a clothing brand named Fe Noel Little Caribbean that eprinted lettering onto shirts as shoppers requested. When speaking to Black Business owner Royce Sago who is creator of “A Word By Royce” and also the sister of Renae Bluitt, she explained that she created a journal titled “I’m Not Powerful Enough To Disrupt My Purpose” to remind folks though we may not see the breakthrough that is about to come, know that it is on its way and what is meant for you will be for you no matter what. With shoppers leaving satisfied and vendors having the opportunity to effectively showcase their product, Holiday Bazaar was a celebration of community and local businesses. If you enjoy quality products and #buyingblack, this was the place to be!
